Makeup can work wonders to help us look our best, but there are also some makeup mistakes that can age you. Today I am sharing the top 5 makeup mistakes that can make you look older. It is a common misconception that you need to wear more makeup as you age. I find the opposite to be true. I think that less is more and a few strategically placed makeup products can really help you look more youthful.
5 MAKEUP MISTAKES THAT MAKE YOU LOOK OLDER

MISTAKE #1 HEAVY, THICK FOUNDATION
A thick and heave foundation can age you quickly. Caking on the foundation all over your face can also cause that dreaded line of demarcation on your jawline. Remember, foundation serves to even out your skin tone, NOT to cover flaws. After applying a sheer layer of a luminous foundation, go back in with concealer to cover any flaws, for a natural looking flawless finish. Also, with dry and mature skin, a heavy foundation can look mask-like and really add on the years. I also love a good illuminating primer to add hydration and glow to your skin.

MISTAKE #2 – TOO MUCH CONCEALER, SHADE IS TOO LIGHT
This has got to be the biggest struggle for women my age. Concealer is so tricky to get right, but when you do, it is magical and can take hours of sleepless nights off your face. The key is to use very small amounts and focus them only on the inner corner and the dark area under your eye. SO many women place it all the way under the eye and the outer corner and it can settle in fine lines and enhance wrinkles. Further, 90% of women apply way too much product and it will settle into your fine lines and enhance them. Lastly, your concealer shade should match your skin tone and, contrary to popular belief, it should not be lighter. Lighter concealer will only enhance your dark circle and make them look gray, leading to the dreaded raccoon eyes. Not a flattering look.

MISTAKE #3 – EYEBROWS ARE TOO THIN AND TOO DARK
In my opinion, few things look harsher on a woman than really thin and dark eyebrows. It is all you see, full brows epitomize youth and take years off your face. If you are not blessed with full brows, like me, there are some tricks to fill them in and look fuller, whilst still looking natural. I share that in my Instagram video here.
PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS:
MISTAKE #4 DARK, MATTE LIPSTICK
A sheer, pink tone plumping gloss is the most flattering choice for any woman, but especially mature women. If you feel a little more color, apply a sheer wash of bright color and then top with gloss. Similar to the eyebrows, dark matte lipstick can make your lips look thinner and can also creep into those fine lines around the lips.

MISTAKE #5 – HARSH BLACK LINER AROUND EYES
It is true that we lose some eyelashes and definition in our features as we age and that can wash us out, but that does not mean you need to compensate by applying dark liner all over. This can actually make your eyes look smaller and can also smudge easily. I know there are some women that love that look and if you are happy with it and it makes you feel great, then, by all means, do it! However, I believe a thin line at the lash line is much more flattering to define and open the eyes. If you choose to wear liner on the bottom, I prefer a soft brown shadow or pencil to define the lower lash line. It shouldn’t be a harsh line. Again, I demonstrate this in my video.

You can see the difference in this picture compared to the photo above. The difference is remarkable. Sometimes choosing the right products can be overwhelming, so I have compiled a list of my favorites.

XO,

Loved your 5 makeup tips that make you look older-my mother has told me these things most of my life so easy for me to see it has worked well for her:) I did want to see your video on eyebrows but don’t know where to find the link-I am blessed with thin eyebrows and so many women get their eyebrows tattooed and they are too dark and it really ages them…just smile and say they look nice, don’t have the heart to tell them the truth since they can’t take them off! Please let me know where I can watch the Instagram video! Thx!!
