THE BEST DRUGSTORE MAKEUP PRODUCTS FOR WOMEN 40+

PRIMER | EYE PRIMER | FOUNDATION | CONCEALER | SHADOW PALETTE | SPONGES | MASCARA, SETTING POWDER | BLUSH | BRONZER | HIGHLIGHTER | BROW PENCIL | SETTING SPRAY | GLOSS | LIPSTICK
PRIMER | A wonderful and budget friendly primer for mature and dry skin. It works really well on skin textures and fills in pores for a smooth and even canvas. It also has a nice cooling feeling when applied. I focus this on the center of my face and blend out.
SHADOW PALETTE | I love this shadow palette. It has a good selection of matte and shimmer shadows, as well as a black shadow that I love to use for eyeliner. I love travelling with this as well, as it is cheap and so versatile. I can create a multitude of looks and it is no big deal if it gets lost, stolen or broken.
EYE PRIMER | One of the biggest mistakes women make is not prepping their eyelid before applying shadow. This is a great, budget friendly option and helps shadow go on smoother, truer and last longer.
FOUNDATION| This is hands-down, one of the best foundations on the market. It has a sheer, glowy texture that covers well and evens out my skin tone without looking heavy or cakey. I mix 202 and 203 together for my perfect custom shade. I always get compliments on my skin when I wear it.
CONCEALER | I have yet to find a drugstore concealer that I absolutely love, but this one is probably the best one so far. It has a sheer texture, but covers well and doesn’t look dry at the end of the day. It is easy to work with, which is a big plus in my book.
SPONGES | These are my favorite way to apply my foundation and concealer. Their smaller size fits my face perfectly and I can reach all of my nooks and crannies with ease. Just remember, makeup sponges need to be used damp or they won’t work and soak up all of your foundation instead.
MASCARA | I have talked about this mascara for a long time and it is still my go-to. It is the perfect dupe for the iconic “Better than Sex” mascara from Too Faced. It works just as well, in my opinion, and is a fraction of the cost. I run it under hot water when it gets clumpy, but usually switch out my tube before that happens, about every 2 months.
SETTING POWDER | When you get to my age, powder can settle into fine lines and make you look older. I am also super careful with powder and use it very sparingly. This one is great, because it gives a nice glow to the skin, kind of like an Instagram filter.
BLUSH | This blush is iconic and truly so petty. I prefer the color “Dolce Pink” over the famous “Luminoso”, because that one runs very warm on me. This pink is super flattering and leaves a nice, natural looking flush on my cheeks. It is quite sheer, so it is easy to use and you can layer it and don’t end up with a blob of color on your cheeks.
BRONZER | I have gone through probably a dozen of these bronzers. They smell like a beach vacation and give a beautiful warm glow to the skin without shimmer or sparkle, which is what you want in a bronzer. It is not too warm and is very user friendly. I wear “Light Bronzer” in the winter and “Bronzer” in the summer.
HIGHLIGHTER | Are you tired of hearing me talk about this yet? This is one of the best highlighters around, period! I use it on my face and body and it is great to mix into your body lotion for a super flattering and camouflaging glow that hides a multitude of sins, like cellulite and veins.
BROW PENCIL | I love the Anastasia Brow pencil, but I hate the price, $23.00 (yikes) and I try to stock up whenever it is on sale. This is my favorite dupe and it is only $11.00. I wear the color “Taupe”. It is great although a tad bit darker than the Anastasia one.
SETTING SPRAY | Not quite as good as my holy grail Urban Decay setting spray, but this one works quite well and is a favorite budget friendly version. Just remember to saturate your face and then let it dry for it to work the right way.
LIPGLOSS | This is one of my all time favorite lip glosses period. The colors are so pretty and this one is so hydrating on your lips. The color I am wearing here is called “Radiant Rose” but I love “Flushing Coral” for the summer as well.
LIP COLOR | The color is called “Dreamer”, and it is the perfect springy pink color. Once applied, it really lasts all day without fading or feeling dry. It just feels like you are wearing nothing at all. I love it and it comes in lots of colors.
Thank you for this round-up. On your recommendation, I’ve already tried the Lumi Glotion, Butter Bronzer and Lash Paradise, and I love them all. Now I’m excited to try the NYX eyebrow pencil, the Matte Ink lipcolour, and the Milani items. I haven’t tried any Milani cosmetics yet, but it looks like I should!
