I have had so many questions about my skincare and what products I use, that I have compiled my current skincare routine & how to layer products into a blog post for you. If your skin is in good shape, any makeup you apply on top of it will look much better. Good skin is key to flawless makeup application and I am pretty ocd about my skincare. I believe in a simple skincare routine without too many steps. That way, you are more likely to stick to it and will see results.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. I believe in good quality products that work for your skin type, as well as consistency. Remember, a skincare product takes at least 6-8 weeks to start seeing results, with maximum results at around 18 months. So many people give up too quickly and have a drawer full of expensive skincare products that “didn’t work” because they simply weren’t given enough time to do their job.
HIT THE RESET BUTTON ON YOUR SKIN
I want to be clear, I am not a dermatologist, or esthetician, but this method has worked for me. If your skin is irritated and you have “product overload” I recommend hitting the reset button and starting from scratch. That means cleanse, moisturizer and sunscreen during the day, and just cleanse and use a moisturizer at night, using very simple basic products, such as CeraVe or Cetapil. Do this and noting else for a few weeks and let your skin reset. Then, introduce one product at a time and use it consistently for 6-8 weeks before adding another. That way, you can tell what products do and don’t work for you. It is a little bit of a process, but once you have it figured out, your skincare routine will be on auto pilot and and your skin will look better and better, if you stick to your routine consistently.

I have outlined my morning and evening skincare routine for you below, including all of the steps and what products I use when. Both take me less than 5 minutes and I really try to stick with it . If all else else fails at night, I have wipes and moisturizer on my nightstand and I will “wash” my face with a wipe in bed and slap on some moisturizer. Then, I set aside some time to mask the next day and give my skin some extra tlc.
MY CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE & HOW TO LAYER PRODUCTS

Now, let’s talk about my favorite skincare products for day and night. These are all tried-and-true products that work for me. I have dry, sensitive, and mature skin with rosacea ( although that seems to be going away, thanks to my routine). Skincare is such a personal thing and everyone needs to figure out what works best for them. However, I get a lot of questions about what products I use, so I have compiled a list to share with you. I will start with my morning skincare products. To be clear, I don’t use all of these products every day. This is just a round-up of products I love and use as needed in the morning.
A.M. SKINCARE PRODUCTS I LOVE

DR. LORETTA GENTLE HYDRATING CLEANSER | When I feel like a need a little extra something, I use this in the morning. I apply to dry skin, leave on 2-3 minutes and then splash warm water and wash my face. Leaves my skin clean and hydrated.
GARNIER MICELLAR WATER | I have used this for years. I usually just go over my face with a cotton round saturated with this stuff to refresh my skin in the morning.
PEACH & LILY SERUM | I love this serum and apply 2-3 pumps to clean, dry skin every morning and evening.
LALA RETRO WHIPPED CREAM | This is a Winter staple. It is rich and hydrating, without being greasy and I love how the dispenser gives me the exact amount of product without contaminating the rest of cream, keeping it air tight, germ free and fresh.
CERAVE CREAM | I have been using this all over my face and body day and night. It is a great basic, staple moisturizer that is dermatologist recommended, fragrance free and help repair the skin barrier. It is also cheap. You can’t really go wrong with this stuff.
ORIGINS GINZING EYE CREAM | One of my favorite eye creams for morning. It contains caffeine and luminizing ingredients to really wake up my eyes and prep them for makeup.
PTR WATER DRENCH EYE CREAM | This is an ultra hydrating eye gel that feels cool on the skin and plumps and hydrates fine lines. Another great “wake-up” eye cream that I like to keep in the fridge and use in conjunction with my jade roller.
PIXI EYE PATCHES | On mornings when I need a bit of extra help, I slap on a pair of these from the fridge while I am making my coffee. They also contain caffeine to help depuff and brighten. Also great in conjunction with my jade roller.
JADE ROLLER | I keep this in the freezer and use it on the mornings I am extra puffy. I use it under my eyes and on my face to de-puff and start my day.
ELTA MD SUNSCREEN | One of my favorite sunscreens for under makeup. I mix it with my Vitamin C serum for maximum benefit and effect.
DE VITAMIN C SERUM | This is my favorite Vitamin C serum and reasonably priced, compared to some others. I also love the packaging, it doesn’t let in sunlight or air, keeping the product stable longer.
SUPERGOOP SUPERSCREEN | This is a great, everyday moisturizer and already contains SPF40, so it eliminates a step, which I am always in favor of. This is on the richer side, so it is definitely better for dry and mature skin. If your skin is oily, I would probably not recommend this.
IT COSMETICS CC CREAM | My final step in my routine, is use this almost every single day. It is my holy grail, it evens out my skin and contains SPF 50.
SUPERGOOP UNSEEN SUNSCREEN | On the days I am not using my CC Cream, I like to use this makeup primer which contains SPF 40. It is one of my favorite primers and I use this a ton in the summertime.
Ok,let’s move on to some of my favorite evening skincare products. Pm skincare is so important, because skin regenerates while you are sleeping. That is why it is most beneficial to use treatment products, such as acids and retinoids at night to give them a chance to do their jobs. Some of them also cause sensitivity to the sun, so they are not great to use during the day. That is also why using a sunscreen during the day is so important.
P.M. SKINCARE PRODUCTS I LOVE

DE SLAII BALM | I love using a balm at night to cleanse my skin. I am not too picky, but l love this one, because it is fragrance free and also takes off all of my makeup. I massage a dollop into my dry skin for about a minute and then take a warm washcloth, press it into my skin and then gently wipe of the balm. This also exfoliates the skin.
CLINIQUE TAKE THE DAY OFF CLEANSING BALM | Another favorite balm that is fragrance free. it works just as well as the Drunk Elephant one and I alternate the 2. This one occasionally goes on major sale at Ulta.
PEACH & LILY SERUM | I would bathe in this stuff, if I could. I use this day and night and follow up with my derma roller about 2×3 times a week, immediately after applying this.
KIEHL’S MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE | Before discovering the Peach & Lily serum, I used this exclusively at night and loved it. It is like liquid gold and really helps calm and soothe my face. It is like hitting the reset button for your skin overnight. I still love it and alternate with the Peach & Lily serum to reap the benefits of both.
BEAUTY BIO GLOPRO | I have talked about this endlessly on my blog and Instagram and simply can’t live without it. It has done wonders for my skin, healed my rosacea, firmed and tightened my face, and evened out my skin tone. Holy Grail status and worth every single penny.
EUCERIN Q10 ANTI WRINKLE CREAM | A total bargain, this rich cream is fabulous and said to be a La Mer dupe. I love it, because it is fragrance free, non, irritating and SO CHEAP!!! Amazon has the best price and I have it on monthly auto delivery so I don’t run out.
ADVANCED CLINICALS RETINOL CREAM | I use this stuff all over my face and body and I freaking love it!!! One of my best discoveries of last year, I use this on my face about twice a week and on my body after every shower to firm and tighten my skin and get rid of crepiness.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC EYE RESCUE | This stuff is not cheap, but you get a HUGE jar of it that will last you a super long time. It is my current ride or die eye cream. It is the perfect combination of a rich & hydrating cream without being greasy and wages war on fine lines and wrinkles. I love it.
DE MARULA OIL | I use this as the final step at night, or sometimes I press a little bit onto my skin during the day if my skin looks dry and sad. It gives me an immediate glow and helps seal in my moisturizer at night and gives my dry skin an extra boost.
LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK | You all know I love the lip sleeping mask and use it every night. I keep this on my nightstand and apply this if my skin is dehydrated and needs an extra drink of water. I sleep in it and wake up to refreshed and hydrated skin. I also love the price tag – a big jar is only $25.00.
LASH BOOST | Another favorite discovery last year, this stuff WORKS to give you the longest, lushes lashes ever. I also keep this on my nightstand and apply right before bed. I love my lashes now and get so many compliments on them. My friend, Kelly, will give you $20 off to try it and it comes with a 60 day money back guarantee.

Whew! That was a lot of information. I hope you find this helpful will give your skin the love it deserves, especially in these cold temperatures.
XO,

Thanks so much for all these tips and specific products!!! One question though- On your morning routine at the end…the IT CC Cream! Is the cream the last step BEFORE my foundation OR does this cream take the place of foundation? OR is this cream just extra sunscreen since the step before this cream, I would have used Elta MD sunscreen mixed with the Vitamin C serum? NOT sure when and why to use this IT CC Cream in my morning skincare routine. I appreciate your time to clarify this for me- Have a great day and Thank you again. LOVE everything you post
The It Cosmetics CC cream takes the place of foundation. If you use this, you don’t need to use the Elta. You would apply your primer after moisturizer, before the It Cosmetics CC cream. I hope that helped clear things up.
PLUS, At what point/step do I apply my face primer? After or before moisturizer? After or before Peach and Lily Serum? ETC During my morning skincare and make up routine. Thanks again
Hi Kirsten, I was just coming to your blog to search for some skincare help for dry skin and I found this post! Perfect timing! One question I have is do you not use a prescription retinol nightly in your routine like a tretinoin for example? Thank you and love all your makeup and skincare posts!
I am so glad you are enjoying my blog. I don’t use a prescription. My skin is so sensitive and I have had good luck with the Advanced Clinicals Retinol lotion. I use that about 2-3 times a week and it has been working great.
I have been waiting for this! Thank you so much!
I know that you have many reasons to do the vitamin c serum in the am but can I do it at night too (or instead)?
You are welcome. Yes, you can certainly apply Vitamin C at night.
I always use a toner after cleansing/ exfoliating day and night. I tried using Micellar water but it doesn’t feel like it cleans up my skin like toner. The first brand I bought was NYX then I purchased SKYN from my FabFitFun add on/edit sale. Please tell me if there’s something I’m missing or not doing right 😊
I have pretty much always used Garnier and love how it gets rid of all of my makeup. Maybe try that one?
I really like your skincare routine. I can take great idea to create an easy skincare routine from this blog. Thanks a lot for sharing.
You are so welcome! I am glad I could help
I would love to try this skincare routine. Recently I started to pay a lot more attention to skin care and start be vigilant with a routine. Curiously enough, when my skin feels freshly washed I sleep so much better at night. Thanks for sharing
