I always find it funny when you guys ask me for hair tutorials, because I feel like half the time, I don’t know what I am doing and my hair is a hot mess. I feel like I get my hair curled the way I like it maybe 50% of the time. But, you guys asked for it so here it is, my messy beach waves tutorial. I filmed a little video as well, so hopefully you will find that helpful.
MESSY BEACH WAVES TUTORIAL
This hair style works best for me with dirty hair. When my hair is clean, it is very soft and fluffy and will not hold a curl. I usually just blow dry my hair after washing it and then curl it 2-3 days in, after it has a little grip from the dry shampoo. If you try this look on fresh, clean hair, I do recommend using a bit of dry shampoo and a texturizing spray beforehand. Otherwise, the curl will not last.
STRAIGHTEN THE ENDS WITH A FLATIRON
I like the look of straight ends and my hair tends to curl under. Before curling my hair, I always run a straightening iron through it, to make sure it is smooth, and straight.
DIVIDE HAIR INTO SECTION
Although curling the bottom part of my hair is not crucial, I like to give it a little bend. The duck clips help keep my hair sectioned. I like to to section my hair into three sections, bottom, middle and top. This makes curling each section easier.
CURL SMALL SECTIONS AT A TIME
I find that this technique works best if I curl smaller 1 inch sections of my hair at a time. it gives me just the right amount of bend I am looking for. I leave the ends out and release the curling iron staight down. You can see this in the video.
LET CURLS COOL BEFORE RAKING THROUGH
The most important part is to make sure the curls have completely cooled before I rake through them with my hands. I add a little texture spray. This one is my favorite, and I am good to go. I find that this style looks best a couple of hours later, once it has settled in.
Below is the video tutorial I filmed for you. Please excuse the horrendous lighting situation at the end, I am really still figuring the technical parts out as I go along. I hope you will find it helpful.
I hope you enjoyed this messy beach waves tutorial. Like I said, I am by no means an expert, but this is the technique that seems to work best for me.
