THE BEST FACE MASKS | I am sharing a bit more about masking in today's blog post, including the best face masks I have tried, including hydrating, deep cleansing & exfoliating. #multimasking #facemasks #hydratingmask #exfoliating mask #deepcleansing #skincare #beauty #products

As you may know, I am a skincare junkie. I will try it all, and today, I am sharing the best face masks for sensitive, mature skin. I have included all of my favorites, from deep cleansing, to exfoliating, to hydrating. Masking is a great way to hit the reset button for your face and can really work wonders if you choose the right mask. I haven’t had a professional facial in years, because I feel like I can achieve the same results at home with these masks. I generally only use an exfoliating mask once a week, but I am constantly applying soothing and hydrating masks to help de-stress my sensitive and dry skin. The warmer months call for some extra TLC for your skin and now is a great time to incorporate a mask into your regimen, if you haven’t already. You will see a big difference.

You may have heard of this term and found it a bit confusing. Allow me to explain. Basically, multi masking is the best way to achieve a customized facial experience at home. Basically, you are applying different masks to different areas of the face to get a customized experience. For example, If you get clogged pores on your nose, apply a charcoal or clay mask in that area. Dry cheeks? Use a hydrating cream in that particular patch. Have major under-eye bags after a night out? Throw on an eye-specific sheet mask. Creating your own concoction makes it easy to treat combination skin or spot-specific flare ups. Plus, now you have a valid excuse to keep three or more masks in your skin care rotation.

Another way to multi mask is to use different masks in succession. I love to follow up an exfoliating mask with an intense hydrating mask to give my skin an extra boost. After the exfoliating mask has removed the dead layer of skin, the hydrating mask is much more effective.

Masking is not one size fits all. In order for you to benefit from masking, it is crucial that you use a mask specific to your skincare concerns and skin type. If your friend swears by a certain mask, that does not mean it will work miracles for you as well.

I have included a bit of everything in this post. I have dry, mature and sensitive skin, so I prefer gentle exfoliating and hydrating masks. That being said, in the summer, when my pores get clogged from heat, sweat and sunscreen, I love a good deep cleansing mask in those areas to help de-gunk my skin, but I would not apply them to my sensitive and rosacea prone cheeks and chin. Makes sense? Below is a round up of my tried and true favorite masks.

FRESH ROSE FACE MASK | This mask is such a treat for your skin. It contains actual rose petals and gently soothes & tones for a plumping effect. It is one of my all-time favorites.

SKYN ICELAND ARCTIC HYDRATION MASK | The most hydrating mask of the bunch. This will leave your skin as hydrated and plump as a babies butt and the effects last for a few days. The only downfall is that it is quite messy. You have to lie down for it, or it will slide straight off your face. The results are worth it though.

LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK | The only one in the bunch I haven’t yet tried, but it is on my list and the reviews are amazing. This is a mask you apply overnight. It quickly absorbs while you sleep to deeply hydrate skin. It helps with dryness, dullness and uneven texture and fine lines.

KIEHL’S CALENDULA MASK | Another soothing and hydrating mask containing calendula and aloe. It is a lightweight gel mask that provides a refreshing surge of cooling hydration upon application. With continued use, skin is revitalized for a healthy-looking complexion. I love slapping this on before heading into the shower and wash it off right before I get out. It is also great if you get a bit too much sun or have wind burned skin.

I much prefer chemical exfoliation, or dermaplaning to using those harsh manual scrubs. They can really damage your skin. Please for the life of me, do not use that Apricot Scrub stuff on your face, EVER!!! It is great for your feet. The following masks are all fabulous for getting rid of the dead layer on the surface of your skin and get you glowing again. Even dry skin needs exfoliation. Just be gentle and use an exfoliating mask only every once in a while and follow it up with a good hydrating mask.

WANDER BEAUTY INSTANT FACIAL | This mask is very similar to the baby facial, but not quite as potent. It is great for sensitive skin and still does a great job of sloughing of the dead layer of skin, leaving your skin refreshed.

GLAMGLOW YOUTH MUD MASK | This is the closest thing to a salon quality facial in a jar. I have been a fan for years. It softens and brightens in as little as 10 minutes and helps with fine lines & wrinkles, dullness and uneven texture. It moisturizes, exfoliates, and lifts away impurities without disturbing skin’s essential oils. Anti-aging ingredients brighten and smooth while delivering a tighter, more youthful appearance with visibly minimized pores. I am telling you, this stuff does it all.

TATA HARPER RESURFACING MASK | When people ask me for an exfoliating mask, I tend to recommend the Baby Facial. However, sometimes it is too potent and like I said before, not every mask works for every person. If people have issues with the baby facial, I recommend this one next. Another clean beauty option, this natural BHA and enzyme-powered mask restores glow and refines the look of pores for smoother, healthier-looking radiant skin. It also tightens for a youthful glow. Another great option, and the packaging is so pretty.

THE BABY FACIAL | Because of my super sensitive skin, I was nervous to try this. I thought it would make my rosacea flare up and irritate my skin, but in the name of science, I tried it anyway. It worked great. I love that you can mix this with any Drunk Elephant moisturizer to make it into an exfoliating and hydrating mask. I leave mine on for 15 minutes and immediately follow up with their Marula Oil, or a hydrating mask, usually he Skyn Iceland one.

Since I have dry and sensitive skin, I rarely use these masks. However, in the summer time, when my nose and forehead get gunked up from from sweat and sunscreen, I love turning to these to unclog my skin and give it a fresh start. Also, my teenage son, who has mild acne is always happy to be my guinea pig with these and he can attest to their quality and de-gunking capabilities.

GODDESS CLAY MASK | This stuff is pure magic. I truly love all of Charlotte Tilbury’s products and this one does not disappoint. Although it is a clay mask, it does not dry out my skin and is probably the most appropriate for mature skin. It does clean, but never feels dry, and also firms and tightens. It helps to create the appearance of tighter pores, moisturized skin and fewer imperfections and leaves my skin glowing. I love it!

LOVE & CHARCOAL | Crafted with powerhouse ingredients like aloe vera and charcoal, this detoxifying face mask works to purify and cleanse the skin without drying it. It draws out dirt & debris, absorbs excess oil, and boosts the skin’s natural defenses Organic Aloe Vera and Cupuacu Butter help to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a gentle, deep cleansing mask.

ORIGINS CLEAR IMPROVEMENT | A truly powerful, deep cleaning mask. Once this one dries , it is hard to move your face. It really draws out dirt and impurities to give your skin a fresh start. It is strong stuff, so I ONLY use this on my nose, but my son love this one all over to help keep is skin clean and clear after sports. A winner for oily & acne prone skin.

I hope you find something new to love in this post. However, there are many masks I have not tried. Please share your favorites in the comments below.

  1. I have tried so many in the past, hoping they would help with my dark spots. This seems to be the first mask I’ve used where I’ve seen improvements after the first few uses. This is Freeman Brightening Peel Off Gel Facial Mask. It does burn slightly but it goes away after a few minutes. This mask probably isn’t for you if you don’t like that burning/tingling sensation some masks have. What do you think about this mask?
