The Best Hair Products for Summer
My kids are counting down the day until summer vacation – 29 days left! Every year, it excites me and stresses me out all at once. But soon enough, we settle into a rhythm that is summer. I love summer. It is my hands-down favorite time of the year. We love to spend lots of time at the pool. My hair is costing me quite a bit of money every year, so I need to keep it protected from sun and chlorine and other environmental stressers during this time. I have rounded up my favorite hair products for summer. I hope you find it helpful. (If you are also looking for a new sunscreen, you can check out my favorites here.)
PRO TIP: You hair can only take in so much water before it becomes completely saturated. Before heading to the beach or pool, soak your hair with regular, or bottled water. This way, it is already saturated and won’t take on any additional salt water and chlorine.
J.Crew Packable Straw Hat
I love this hat. It is cute and functional, which can be hard to find. The hat protects my hair and skin from harmful rays and you can toss it into your suitcase, or beach bag 1000 times and it will retain its shape flawlessly. It is absolutely perfect for travel. It runs small, so size up one size. I got a M/L.
GHD Flat Iron
This is, hands down, the best flatiron I have ever used and worth every penny. Cheaper versions will fry your hair and cause damage. I prefer to let my hair air dry and this iron makes quick work of straightening any kinks with a single pass. You can read the deets here, but basically, this innovative technology heats the iron to a perfect temp, causes 50% less damage and makes your hair super shiny.
Blax Hair Bands
I order these in bulk on Amazon. They are the perfect hair elastic. These bands are sturdy, don’t break and are snag free. I use them on the daily in the summer for a ponytail, high bun or braids. They stay put, slide out easily and are pretty much invisible. Perfect for summer hair styles.
L’oreal Oil-in-cream
This smells divine and keeps my ends protected and healthy looking. Nothing says damage like dry and split ends. I apply this to damp hair before styling, but it can also be used on dry hair to seal the cuticles and give them healthy looking shine. A little goes a long way, so use it sparingly.

Dp Hue Acv Leave-In Hair Therapy
Yes, the “ACV” in this treatment spray’s name stands for apple cider vinegar. No, you won’t regret having doused your head in a salad-dressing ingredient. Not only does it help normalize the pH of hair that’s been exposed to chemical processing, it also conditions strands with amino acids, detangles knots, and lends tons of shine. And because the formula is also spiked with argan oil, aloe vera, and macadamia oil, it keeps hair moisturized, too. The Rinse is fantastic as well.
The Wet Brush
This brush is fantastic. It detangles wet hair effortlessly without pulling and minimizes damage to strands. They are fairly inexpensive, so you can stash one in your beach bag and leave one at home. I highly recommend them, especially if you have little girls! It will make your life so much easier.
WOW Dreamcoat
A friend turned me onto this stuff and it is magical. it is basically like a brazillian blowout that you can do at home. Just run a few pumps to your strands before blow drying and you are left with hair that is shiny and frizz free for up to 3 shampoos. Life changing, I tell you.

Aveda Sun Care Spray
A lightweight, water-resistant UV-defense mist that forms an invisible screen to help protect hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours, to minimize color fading, damage and dryness. This is great for beach and pool, if you can’t wear a hat. I use it liberally and throughout the day to keep my hair protected.
Living Proof Dry Shampoo
I have a confession to make. During the rest of the year, I only wash my hair once a week and it is due to this miracle in a bottle. It is the best dry shampoo on the market and nothing else I have tried comes close. It actually cleans your hair and removes oil and debris to reveal fresh and clean hair. I like buying this from their website directly, because they always offer samples, which are great for travel. Also, they have amazing sales all the time, so make sure you get on their email list. Last time I stocked up, it was buy one get one free.
Supergoop SPF 50 Sunscreen Oil
This is a fabulous sunscreen and I use it all over my body and also put it it my hair to nourish and protect it from the sun. It is a great multi-use products. I love it, because it is so nourishing and leaves a beautiful glow. It is especially great if you have dry skin.

L’oreal Everpure 6-in-1 Cleansing Balm
This cleansing balm is my summer staple shampoo. This low-lather cleansing conditioner offers a full haircare regimen in one step. It cleans, conditions, treats, detangles, smooths, moisturizes, adds shine, and is non-stripping. It is ideal for my dyed hair and is Sulfate Free, Paraben Free and Silicone Free. A giant bottle costs around $11.00. Total beauty bargain alert!!
Trader Joe’s Coconut Oil
I love this stuff to no end and I am so glad they decided to make it into travell sized envelopes. I throw these into my beach bag and suitcase and use them all over my body. In my opinion, this makes THE best hairmask. I have tried them all and always come back to this. It works wonders on your hair. Just melt the oil and run it through your strands. LEve it in as long as you can and then wash and condition as ususal. Also, I sometimes ut htis in, before heading to the beach and just put my hair in a top-knot. Pick some up next time you are there.

These are my best hair products for summer. You may notice the absence of the uber popular seas salt sprays. I am not a fan. It does nothing for my texture and the salt is actually damaging to my color. Do you have any favorites? I would love to know, so please share them with me below.
