HAPPY LOVE DAY!!!
I made this Love Potion #9 cocktail at my Valentine’s party last weekend. It was a huge hit and so many of you asked for the recipe, so here it is. It is super simple. The most labor intensive thing is to make the blackberry simple syrup and even that isn’t really too bad. I made a big batch and I have quite a bit left over, which makes future cocktail making even easier.
Another thing I love about this recipe is that it is so flexible. I used vodka, but you could substitute gin, or even champagne. Pick your poison!
INGREDIENTS:
2 pints blackerries
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Champagne, White wine, Vodka or Gin (hey, even bourbon may work)
Seltzer, plain or flavored. I used plain seltzer
Fresh thyme sprigs
HOW TO:
Combine sugar, water and 1 pint of the blackberries in a small pot and bring to a boil. Let simmer 10 minutes and mash the blackberries. Strain and let cool.
For 2 cocktails, combine 4 ounces of booze with 2 tablespoons of the blackberry syrup. Stir.
Fill 2 glasses with ice (I prefer crushed) and divide the boozy syrup between the 2 glasses.
Top with seltzer
Decorate with blackberries and thyme sprig
Enjoy!
(For a crowd, you can make a big batch of the boozy syrup and then just fill the glasses and top with seltzer and decorate. I would not recommend adding the seltzer too soon, as it will go flat.)
