Even though my brain says “Spring”, the weather is still saying “Winter” and quite forcibly so in some parts of this country. Is your skin ready? Beyond the quest to feel comfortable in my own skin, applying makeup can present a challenge. Dry and patchy skin can make makeup look less that flattering. Thank goodness for the power of some amazing new skin products that have been saving my skin this winter and have helped me win the battle. Last, week, I wrote a whole blog post about that, which I recommend reading, because skincare is where it all begins. If your skin doesn’t look good, your makeup doesn’t look good.
This week, I am sharing my favorite makeup products that will help you achieve a fabulous glow. It’s all about smoke and mirrors, baby!
Boots Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm
This stuff is amazing and I love using it to prep my skin for makeup application. It gives my skin an instant pick-me-up and makes it look fresher, brighter and less tired. It also makes my foundation look flawless. It contains natural AHA’s which act as mild exfoliators to help leave skin smoother and brighter over time. A total keeper.
L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation
This is a recent discovery and I am obsessed. Not only is it the best drugstore foundation I have ever used, it is one of THE best foundations I have ver used. (Yes, you heard that right.) It gives beautiful coverage and a nice healthy glow. It is perfection. If you are oily, this foundation is probably not for you, but I would give the matte counterpart a try. I have heard great things about that one as well.
Wander Beauty On-the-Glow Blush and Illuminator
I keep reaching for this easy to use blush and highlighter combo. I apply the blush to the apples of my checks and blend it in an upward and outward motion. I then pop the highlighter above my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and right above my lips to achieve a healthy glow. I just use my fingers – no brushes necessary and it is great for travel.
Stila “Kitten” Shadow
An oldie, but a goodie. I always tell my clients to use shimmer sparingly, especially on more mature skin, but this shadow is more luminous than glittery, the texture is silky soft and it adds just the right amount of dimension and light when popped onto the middle of the lid.
Jergens BB Body Cream
This is like a BB cram for your body. It hides flaws, adds a little permanent color thanks to a built-in self tanner), and smells glorious. It is sure to perk up your pasty, winter white skin and is a total bargain to boot. I always order two at a time on Amazon, so I am sure to never run out.
Pixi by Petra Glow Mist
There are numerous facial and setting sprays on the market, but what makes this one different is the addition of Propolis and Argan oil, soothing my itchy winter complexion and keeping it glowing. I use if before applying my makeup to hydrate and nourish my skin, and afterwards to set my makeup to give it a dewy finish. I also find myself reaching for this throughout the day to perk up my face and give it an extra boost.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Pink Quartz
A summer staple, I find myself reaching for this more and more thoughout the winter. It adds just the perfect amount of warmth and soft pink color to my complexxion, giving it that “lit from witjin” appreance we all crave and that is so hard to achieve during the cold winter months.
Origins Ginzing Eye Cream
Another oldie, but staple. This eye cream is lightweight and soaks in immediately to hydrate the delicate skin beneath the eyes. Further, it contains caffeine and has luminizing properties to give my eyes they a.m. wake up call and prep them for makeup application. I love using it in conjunction with this concealer.
Spring is on its way, but for the next few weeks at least, these things will help you get your glow on.
